Historical background

In early post-war years, after State Danube Marine steamship company formation, it became necessary to repair and maintain existing fleet in operation.

July 15th, 1947 is considered to be the date of our ship repair yard establishment.

In 1948, we had mastered vessel lift to shore in order to repair the underwater part of the hull by using winches and pulleys for slide ways. The first vessel to be served was the SDHP-407 barge.

In 1949 we had carried out our first crude iron smelting.

By 1950s, the majority of workers, engaged in construction, were transferred to production facilities to be involved into main production.

Having mastered the processes of ship repair, the company was gradually moving towards vessel overhaul reconditioning. The share of such types of works had gone up to 61% in 1950 compared to 2,3% in 1948.

In 1950 ship yard had repaired over 191 vessels with total amount of employees coming up to 200 people.

In 1954, the ship-repair yards have been renamed as Izmail shipyard.

The 1957 is considered to be the year when a shipbuilding hall was started to be constructed using own resources. The chain-testing mill, designed by our engineering bureau, was manufactured and put into operation.

In 1958 shipbuilding boiler hall was brought into service. Throughout sixties, tool maintenance department, paint warehouse, central stock warehouse, so as electrical substation were built and put into operation.

March 15th, 1963 our shipyard had performed its first difficult lift of motor vessel “Belinsky” at dock # 1.

In 1966 our company had plotted a covered berth by “Eubigau” with handling capacity of up to 500 tons.

In 1968 water propellers maintenance workshop was put into operation. The amount of employees by 1970 had come up to 800 people.

During seventies, both floating dock with 5000 tons handling capacity, so as shipyard pier 340 meters long, was received and put into service.

In 1980s the number of workers employed had reached 1 100 people.
