The Dunajsudoremont had completed the modernization of the dry-cargo vessel “Volzhsky-50” for OJSC “North-Zapad Shipping Company”. The project is based upon the idea of using high (3,5 m, and taking into account the existing) continuous longitudinal coaming hatchways.
This approach will allow to increase the existing vessel resistance by 56%, so as to improve both holds’ capacity and general carrying capacity of the vessel in accordance with the requirements of the International Convention on Load Lines.
To improve navigability, the height of forecastle extension was increased by 1,7 m. In addition, the shipboards were sewn at aft end area, which formed a proper quarter-deck extension. The conventional vessel deadweight had gone up from 4 350 to 6 067 tons (which makes 1717 tons difference and come to 39% total deadweight increase), the volume of cargo holds had risen by 46 % and now is around 9404 cubic meters. The vessel is intended to be used for transportation of general, bulk and dry cargo, containers, timber, coal, dangerous cargoes etc.
After modernization, the vessel has received a KM L4 R2 – RSN class of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping .
